My Liner Notes
Let’s try something new. Now, “technically” I was beta testing this on my para-social friends over the past year (Thank you, Instagram Highlights!), but it’s new for here, for us, and that must count for something. What it means is I’ll be giving you more – music, in particular – and more consistently. Brief reads/reactions on three albums (past, present, or New Music Friday) with a tag line and emoji to help summarize. I’m calling it “My Liner Notes”, but you can read so that was pointless. Note: I’m not the music publisher. Meaning I’m not the artist, and the artist may have released their own accompaniment. You should read theirs, too, even if it is long. Note, further: I’m hesitant to recap the demise of actual album liner notes. Historical rollercoaster that it is, if you can handle the G-force, you can read something even longer and learn more about it here. (TL;DR – the economy + sh*t went digital.)

Yes, this whole concept is indicative of the main problem of “my generation(s)” – too short attention spans, too little patience: no appreciation for history, no love for ALBUMS. But, I mean, come on: we do love albums. If we didn’t, Taylor and Ticketmaster would still be best friends with zero #BadBlood. We’re busy (read: perpetually distracted, anxious, and in need of constant stimulation/rewards) is all. So, I’ll do the hard work for you. I’ll be that good friend, that honorable friend, that quirky, fun fellow, who listens to an album front-to-back and tells you what he thinks in a digestible, “Bullet points, please!” way. Cause I know you’re reading this on your phone with one hand on a transit rail you’re worried will give you COVID (again). Or, were taking a healthier, more productive, break from TikTok and now are in need of music to help focus on whatever task was previously at hand.
My final and most important note: this is to be fun. I’m not a music critic any more than I’m a film critic when watching trailers. I send this because I wouldn’t let you do (or listen to) stupid things…alone. A homie who puts you on the newest artists and sounds, while also being the goofiest mofo you know with the silliest tangents. You should still call it a favour and rest assured I’ll cash in on it later. Good looks, dawg. I gotchu!
Oh, and did I mention it’s for paid subscribers only?
P.S. A sign of maturity is learning how to make the private, public. And when to keep that sh*t sealed. (a.k.a Thank you for becoming a paid subscriber!)
